"I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore, choose life, so that you and your descendants may live, and that you may love the Lord your God, obey Him, and hold fast to Him. For He is your life, and He will prolong your life in the land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
Every day we face choices, and our Heavenly Father, out of His great love, gave us the free will to choose. He does not want robots, He wants us to love Him freely and choose to do what is right and what the Bible instructs us to do.
Paul says,
“Everything is permissible,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible,” but not everything is edifying." (I Corinthians 10:23)
Although you have free will, there are repercussions to some of the choices you make. You will reap the consequences of your actions.
"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
(Galatians 6:7-10)
If you steal, you will go to jail. If you spend all your money frivolously during the month, you will not have it to pay for your rent, utilities, etc. Do not complain when it is gone; you made the choice.
God gives us the choice to make right decisions, and if we choose to go against His will, we will suffer corrective discipline in order to put us back on the right path. He does not want any of us to suffer.
You have the choice to treat people with kindness and to act justly, to show mercy and forgiveness as God shows us every day.
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)
You have the choice to love God, love people, and love yourself in the way He tells us to. "He answered, 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Luke 10:27)
You have the choice to stay focused on Him, trusting Him with everything that concerns you. When you do that, they will not have a hold on you, robbing you of your peace and joy.
What choices will you set in your heart to make when you have many decisions to make?
Then there is the ultimate choice, the one you make as to where you will spend eternity. You make that choice here on earth. Have you made the right one?
It is not too late, and Jesus did all the work. He died on the cross for you. All you have to do is believe in who He is and what He did and receive Him as Lord and Savior of your life and heart.
You have a choice, what will yours be?
"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” (Romans 10:9-11)
